North Coast Inter-Tribal Children's Court Pilot Project

POSITION DESCRIPTION


POSITION:

Children's Tribal Court Clerk (Full time)



SALARY:

$20,000-$24,000 per year (depending on experience)

STARTING DATE:

Immediately

POSITION NARRATIVE: The Children's Tribal Court Judge will be supervised by the Children's Tribal court Judge and will be responsible for assisting the Judge in establishing and administering the North Coast Inter-Tribal Children's Court.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The clerk will be responsible for assisting the Judge in implementing the North Coast Inter-Tribal Children's Court Pilot Project pursuant to the guidelines, and ultimately meeting the goals and objectives of the project. The job duties include: assisting the Judge in drafting court rules and procedures, and a bench manual (including court forms); assist in the coordination of meetings with local and state agencies to assume jurisdiction of juvenile dependencies; assist the Judge in drafting a state-tribal agreement for assumption of jurisdiction; attend and record all court sessions; prepare court dockets and minute orders; set up and maintain an efficient filing system; file stamps incoming documents to be filed; set up and maintain an index of all cases filed on computer system; provide a central source of information on court activities; search and compile information and funding source; receive, logs & routes in-coming mail; types correspondence for Judge to review; prepares, photocopies, and verifies and certifies the validity of court documents; schedules cases on the court calendar in a timely manner; responsible for evidence received by the court and properly marked as evidence; acts as the court receptionist and counter clerk regarding public information and court rules; answer phone, log in coming calls and take messages.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have prior experience as a court clerk and in the administration of a court. Must be courteous and professional. Must have prior experience with computers, filing, and greeting the public. Prior paralegal or legal secretary experienced is preferred. Indian preference will be given pursuant to the Indian Preference Act of 1934. Verification of proof of eligibility for Indian preference must be submitted to the Director.
